The Flow collection is inspired by the movement of liquid glass, frozen into a stasis that is both fragile and eternal. Each vase in the collection is unique, with splashes of color that mimic the dance of abstract impressionist brush strokes. Majuri describes each vase as having its own breath, a metaphor for the soul of the piece that elevates it beyond a mere interior object.
The collection is crafted using traditional Finnish glass-blowing techniques, allowing color to flow freely within the layers of glass. Available in three shapes and two colors, blue and purple, each vase is mouth-blown and hand-shaped, signed, and numbered. The pieces are created in the Mafka&Alakoski Glass Studio in Finland, a testament to the country's rich history of glass craftsmanship.
More than just decorative objects, the vases in the Flow collection are designed to bring serenity into everyday life. When light gleams through the glass, the shadow of the piece comes alive, reflecting the inner play of color and creating a unique, calming ambiance.
The Flow collection was launched in January 2021 in Riihimaki, Finland, and was exhibited in Hong Kong later that year. The project represents a successful experiment with the contrasting nature of the glass medium, exploring how thick and voluminous glass can appear weightless and how the optics of the medium influence the movement of color.
The creation of the Flow collection presented several challenges, including the abstract use of color to create harmonious impressions and the combination of multiple traditional glass-blowing techniques in a fresh and innovative way. Despite these challenges, the collection has been recognized for its outstanding design and innovation, earning the prestigious Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2021.
In conclusion, the Flow collection by Sini Majuri is a remarkable blend of art, design, and craftsmanship. It showcases the beauty and versatility of the glass medium, bringing a touch of serenity and sophistication to any space. The collection serves as a reminder of the enduring appeal of traditional craftsmanship, even in an age of rapid technological advancement.
